About
I’m Gordon Bonnar, a public servant living in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I am passionate about learning, finding beauty in the world, and connecting with people. My educational background is in Mathematics and Computer Science, although I am heading towards more education in public policy with a heavy emphasis on taking an empirical approach to policy planning using mathematical sociology.
I began blogging in my third year of university and blogged for almost seven years straight from 2001 through 2007 at several different blogs using every content mangement system under the sun. In quick summary:
- Musings of a Madman was hosted at Carleton on my CHAT space and edited by hand, then with Blogger
- Textual Liberation was hosted on a friend’s server and accessible at the easy to remember mjolnir.org
- Poeticgeek.net (my longest running blog) ran on a VPS and started on Gray Matter before quickly moving to Moveable Type, then Blosxom, and finally Wordpress.
I took a long hiatus from blogging as I felt that I couldn’t write properly in a style I felt reflected me. On a whim I registered corpulentaristocrat.com based on a character I play sometimes who is exceedingly aristocratic, is out of touch with the rest of the world and loves bon bons. Unfortunately, this isn’t me and it was hard to find a way to blog in such a way that it felt right. Finally, I decided the best way to do it was to blog as myself (the narcissistic guy that I am).
I hope you enjoy gordonbonnar.com as much as I enjoy writing and maintaining it.
